2020 NEHRP Design Examples — Solved by the Site Engines
FEMA P-2192-V1, 2020 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Design Examples (FEMA and the Building Seismic Safety Council, 2021) works through ASCE 7-22 provisions step by step. It is a public-domain U.S. government publication. This page takes each example's printed inputs, lets the site engine compute the intermediate values and the result, and shows them next to the printed values.
Chapter 8 — nonstructural components (ASCE 7-22 §13.3.1). Five examples, thirteen results. Every coefficient agrees within 0.3 % and the governing equation (Eq. 13.3-1, the lower limit or the upper limit) is the same as in the book. Two misprints found while checking are noted in the table; they do not affect the results.

Chapter 7 — diaphragm design forces (ASCE 7-22 §12.10). All three examples are reproduced by the
ASCE 7-22 diaphragm forces tool: one-story wood assembly hall (both methods govern at the lower bound, 19,072 / 17,072 lb); six-story steel building (traditional 302 / 510 / 460 / 411 / 377 / 377 kips; alternative roof 778 kips); one-story RWFD warehouse (traditional 1,712 kips; §12.10.4 with AISI S400 detailing 1,266 kips, without it 3,800 kips). Two slips in §7.5.2 were found and are documented on the tool page — notably the 6th-floor C
px interpolated over 12 ft instead of 0.2·h
n = 14.4 ft (0.60 instead of 0.582).
Chapter 4 — special reinforced concrete ductile coupled wall (ACI 318-19). The 22-story wall example anchors the
special walls and coupling beams tool and the
wall boundary element tool: amplified design shear 1,555 kips (Ω
v = 1.5) and 1,728 kips once M
pr/M
u = 3.64 is known (the 3V
u cap governs); boundary element length 78.6 in. and confinement A
sh/(s·b
c) = 0.012; coupling beam V
e = 229 kips with six-legged #4 hoops at 6 in. Two misprints are documented on the tool page (√ missing in the boundary-width check; 0.05·A
g·f′
c evaluated with another member's numbers).
Chapter 5 — coupled composite plate shear walls (C-PSW/CF). The composite coupling beam (M
p 1,407 kip-ft, M
p,exp 1,582.6 kip-ft, V
n 592 kips, flexure-critical 657 ≥ 380 kips) and the wall unit-width compression (P
n 1,066 kips per 12-in. strip) anchor the
C-PSW/CF tool. Three formula misprints are documented there; the book's numbers follow the correct forms.
Chapters 3 and 6. Table 3-1 (site classes BC, CD, DE with their shear-wave velocity bounds) and the §21.4 derivation of S
DS/S
D1 from a multi-period spectrum (Figure 3-11: 1.03 g / 1.59 g) anchor the
ASCE 7-22 seismic tool; the cross-laminated timber shear wall of §6.4 (C
s = 0.333) anchors its ELF engine.
