ASCE 7-22 Wind — Components & Cladding, Walls & Flat Roofs of Low-Rise Buildings

Chapter 30 Part 1 (h ≤ 60 ft): p = qhKd[(GCp) − (GCpi)] with Figure 30.3-1 coefficients for wall Zone 4 (field) and Zone 5 (corners), varying log-linearly with effective wind area between 10 and 500 ft². For cladding, windows, studs and fasteners.

Eq. 30.3-1p = qhKd[(GCp) − (GCpi)]; in ASCE 7-22 Kd sits in the pressure equation, not in qh. Both signs of GCpi are applied (the worse is shown).
Fig. 30.3-1Zone 4: +1.0 → +0.7 and −1.1 → −0.8; Zone 5: +1.0 → +0.7 and −1.4 → −0.8, log-linear between 10 and 500 ft², constant outside. Note 5: for θ ≤ 10° reduce by 10% (and use the eave height for h). a = min(0.1·least dimension, 0.4h), not less than 0.04·least dimension or 3 ft.
Fig. 30.3-2AFlat roofs (θ ≤ 7°), unchanged from ASCE 7-16: Zone 1′ −0.9; Zone 1 −1.7 → −1.0; Zone 2 −2.3 → −1.4; Zone 3 −3.2 → −1.4 (10 → 500 ft², log-linear); positive +0.3 → +0.2 (10 → 100 ft²) — from ASCE's own ASCE 7-22 commentary text. Zone 1′ is given only for A ≤ 100 ft² in that source, so −0.9 is used for all areas (conservative). The zone layout depends on h — see the figure.
Verify roofNCSEA Wind Engineering Committee ASCE 7-22 example, 100 ft²: Zone 1 −1.29, Zone 2 −1.77, Zone 3 −2.14, positive +0.2 — reproduced.
VerifyStruware ASCE 7-22 worksheet: (GCp ± GCpi) for walls with the 10% reduction — Zone 4 −1.17/−1.01/−0.96/−0.90, Zone 5 −1.44/−1.12/−1.03/−0.90, positive 1.08/0.92/0.87/0.81 at 10/100/200/500 ft² — reproduced exactly (regression test).
ScopeWalls and flat roofs (θ ≤ 7°) of low-rise buildings (h ≤ 60 ft, h ≤ least dimension). Sloped roofs, overhangs, parapets and buildings with h > 60 ft are separate checks.
