Excavation and Fill — Battered Pit and Haulage (U.S. units)

Bank cubic yards of a battered pit, loose (swelled) and compacted (shrunk) volumes kept separate, backfill and disposal balance, and truck loads with the volume or payload limit identified. CSI MasterFormat 31 23 00.

Pit

Haulage of the disposal volume

Swell, shrinkage and unit weight are soil properties from the geotechnical report — they are inputs, not defaults to rely on. The batter is a soil and safety decision (OSHA 1926 Subpart P governs trench and excavation sloping).

MethodV = L·W·h + n·h²(L + W) + (4/3)·n²·h³ (integrated from the bottom; the prismoidal rule gives the same value exactly). Bank, loose and compacted volumes are kept separate. CSI MasterFormat 31 23 00 Excavation and Fill.
VerifiedUses the site's metric earthwork engine unchanged; U.S. results match hand calculation in ft³/27 exactly, and the volume- and payload-governed truck cases match hand calculation.
